Gear Up for Redfish

With Spring right around the corner its time to get ready for some outstanding Redfish action. As the days get longer and warmer it sets the stage for some great backcountry Red fishing. The Reds in my fishing waters start to pile up along the many Mangrove Shorelines that surround my home waters. They are one of the hardest pulling and most sought after inshore gamefish. Its hard to beat hooking into a large Red close to a mess of Mangroves and having a one on one contest with the fish trying to pull you back into the sticks on light tackle. One of the most productive ways to target these fish is using a soft plastic grub or jerk bait. When conditons allow I like to rig my grubs with a 1/8 or 1/16 oz jighead and throw close to the edge of the Mangroves and using a upward twitch as your bringing the lure back to the boat. Concentrate on points, bends, and small coves in the Mangroves. Getting close to the edge with your bait is very important for the most consistant bite. Come see me this Spring and setup a charter and enjoy for yourself some of this heart pounding action firsthand!!
